Intermountain Children’s Place

Intermountain Children’s Place, in Spruce Pine North Carolina, participated in previous Preventing Obesity by Design projects and has an existing outdoor learning environment, designed by NLI.

This phase focused on a space for large group activities and nature play. A new space with a large multipurpose lawn, stage, dedicated garden, climbing boulders, and pathways was designed. This area was completed and is currently being used by the center, allowing more classes to use the outdoors at one time and extending the amount of time that children can be outside.

Over the last few months parents and community members have commented on how beautiful the new learning environment is and it has helped rejuvenate our staff and helped us take pride in our center.
